Pitney Bowes was involved in a nationwide Windows 2000 Desktop refresh rollout. The project included the upgrade of desktops and laptops at 280 field offices with a large number of new devices being deployed. Pitney Bowes also needed a highly efficient method to image hard drives without having to install them onto a desktop or laptop first.

After significant research and testing, Summit Technologies derived a solution involving proprietary hardware and software to connect several hard drives at a time to a “master” drive and copy its image onto various new drives. Summit additionally developed processes to test the four different hardware/software configurations possible with each of the newly installed drives. This custom solution included just in time production and delivery of various images to each individual office location for installation. Summit handled the entire logistic operations for all 280 locations, which included staging, packaging, and shipping services.

Pitney Bowes desktop refresh was a success, due to Summit's ability to image and test over 3,000 drives in a 12 week timeframe. The drives were delivered on an aggressive schedule with a 99.99% success rate. The customer enjoyed minimal work down time during the upgrade, and saved significant costs due utilizing this custom developed by Summit Technologies.
